“How do I draw polar bear cubs?” was the first question that popped into my mind as I began the illustration process.
Thanks to the internet, I had access to thousands of photos of polar bears.
Ironically, I spent an entire summer in Greece, immersed in 100-degree weather, studying creatures built for ice and snow.
The contrast was quite amusing, there were moments when I found myself longing to be a polar bear, just to escape the intense heat!
Photographs played a crucial role in helping me study and capture the bears' various poses and movements for the story. I carefully selected images that matched each specific illustration, using them as references to bring the artwork to life. Next, I sketched the images with pencil, incorporating the text to better visualize how everything would come together on a page.
Below are some of my first attempts with acrylic paint, before I transitioned to exploring the world of digital drawing.
I created the two images above, along with the one below, for the same page of the story. In the end, I chose to keep the third one below.
